The Diary of Iris Jones. (First Entry.)

Um-dear diary?

Well, crap. I’ve never had a diary before, so let’s see how this works out. To start off with, I guess I should tell you a little about myself.
I have long brown hair and deep green eyes. My name is Iris Jones. I am seventeen years old and I’m currently a junior in high school. I just transferred to an all girls academy. I don’t mind being in an all girls academy. In fact, the last school I went to, the guys were sleazy and disgusting. I’m still waiting for the right guy to come along. But so far, he hasn’t.
Well, I can’t really tell you much about my school because I’ve only been going for about a week. It’s not that big, I can tell you that. Since I’m new a lot of people seem to follow me around, which is awkward for me, since I’m pretty shy.
I hope this new person thing wears off pretty soon. The good thing about being here is that school lasts longer. Now, for most people, that would be horrible. But not for me. Every time I go home I have to think. Think about my dad. I left him in Tuscan, Arizona, with his new wife. I’m out here living with my mom and my aunt, Jennifer. My mom and my aunt work all day, until about seven or eight, so when I get home, well, I’m all alone.
I have to get home and clean, do laundry, then cook dinner. I try to make everything perfect, because I know it makes them happy to come home to a clean house and a nice dinner. I also have a job at a convenience store downtown Port Williams. I obviously don’t work often, but I do have some money saved up from working and a lot of chores. But, I was never much a spender. I don’t feel the need to go out and buy me a whole new wardrobe. Actually I can’t even think about that, it just sounds plain stupid.
Well, I do have to go. I have a house to clean and laundry to do.

Dear diary,

I’ve been having a pretty bad time. My mother and aunt had a fight, so my aunt moved out. Naturally, with my mom’s kind, child-like nature, she invited my aunt to move back in. Well, this resulted in another argument, because my aunt believes that if she moves back in, she will give in to my mom’s peer pressure.
I honestly don’t see what she means. My mom was always on the move, always doing new things. It was like I was the adult. But of course my mother could get a little… protective. Sometimes. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, except when she misunderstands and gets a little too protective. Sometimes my mom does go too far.
My aunt called today. She called from her work since she knew if she waited until she got home, mom would probably answer. She told me she misses me and wishes she were there. I told her she was welcome back anytime. She had laughed at that and said that that wasn’t the case. She also told me to stay beautiful and I had laughed this time. When I laughed she just sighed and muttered something unintelligible.
And that is why I am having a bad time. Tomorrow is the weekend, so hopefully I will be able to get out even thought the weather says it’s going to rain. Again. I already studied for my calculus test on Monday, so it looks like I can be free tomorrow. Maybe I would drive downtown to Port Williams and go to the beach. I might need to go to the store; we are desperately running low on food. And I’m pretty sure that we need to eat something other than soup.

Dear diary,

Well, things are starting to look up. My aunt has found a new house that she is going to buy. It’s small, but I think she will like it. I also have found out that my dad, he is now moving to Phoenix, which is good for him and his wife.
I’ve been making good progress in schoolwork, too. Though my mom really wants to move me to another school. Preferably a public school. I don’t mind my school, though. I guess my mom thinks I’m lying when I tell her that, even though she knows I’m a terrible liar.
I met a girl named Elise today. I think that is the most wonderful name ever. She is the nicest, most beautiful girl I know. She has long blonde, curly hair. She has the most amazingly beautiful hazel eyes. I wish I looked like her. She is so ordinary that it makes her just so… different, beautiful. She now works with me, so I don’t often see her. She goes to a public school.
My mom was considering us moving to an apartment closer to town, but I doubt she will go through with it, she hardly ever does.
